Editorial standards

The standards governing accuracy, independence, sourcing, conflicts and responsible cybersecurity publication.

Accuracy

Material factual claims must be supported by a linked source. Primary sources are preferred. Significant or disputed claims should be independently corroborated where practical.

Independence

Advertisers, sponsors, recruiters, event hosts, advisory participants and referral partners do not select stories, review editorial copy before publication or influence Security.io’s conclusions. Security.io may report critically on any commercial partner.

Attribution

Facts, analysis, research and quotations are attributed to their originators. Quotations are checked against the original source wherever available. The publication avoids presenting another outlet’s reporting as its own original work.

Responsible cybersecurity reporting

Coverage should inform defenders without needlessly operationalising abuse. Sensitive exploit details, victim information and credentials are withheld when publication would create disproportionate risk.

Conflicts

Material advertising, sponsorship, advisory, referral, financial or personal relationships connected to a story are disclosed. Contributors must identify relevant conflicts before publication. Security.io may reassign coverage, add independent review or decline an engagement where separation cannot be maintained credibly.

Updates and corrections

Substantive updates carry a timestamp. Material errors are corrected transparently under the published corrections policy and are not silently overwritten.
